Research shows that less than 10% of people in the world have perfect or neutral feet. This basically means that their feet are less likely to need any special attention, which means that the majority will require special care from time to time. If you find that your feet are almost always sore and you’re not overweight or strain your feet, you may need custom foot orthotics. There are a few signs that can help you know if you need orthotics or not, which you need to be aware of.
1. Worn out soles
It is normal for shoes to wear out but how this happens is an area that you should be keen to check. If you notice that your soles wear out on one side a lot more than the other, then you may have pronated or supinated feet. The pronated tend to curve outward and is commonly mistaken for flat feet, while supinated are curved inward. If you have any of these then you need custom made orthotics to help balance out your feet.
2. Foot print test
This is a test that is done to determine your footprint which will tell if you need orthoses or not. It is done by wetting your foot then stepping on newspaper of a colored paper that will clearly show the print. Your foot should have a curve but not a very deep one. If it is either very deep or has no curve at all, then you may need the orthotics.
3. Persistent foot pain
If you find yourself needing a foot massage or find that your feet are so painful whenever you are walking, is a major tell that you need orthoses. However, make sure that it is not caused by poorly fitted shoes or straining your feet.
Orthotics is a great way of gaining some balance in your feet which will allow you to be more comfortable and reduce any pain that you may have. However, don’t panic if you find that your feet are not neutral, as long as you are not having any problems walking then you have nothing to worry about.
